Despite all the challenges, conficts and wars that Palestine has endured for the last 75 long years, the Palestinians are facing a more pressing issue, namely unity. It has been sixteen years since Fatah and Hamas, the two main political factions in Palestine violently part ways, after Hamas won the 2006 legislative elections. Until today, the relationship between the two main parties continued to be sour and the political rift has compounded the geographical division of the Palestinian people and is a source of deep anger and frustration. Major differences in approach and ideology make reconciliation difficult.

The significant disparities between the two main factions have deterred them from uniting against Israel, even though both organisations shared the same objective of liberating Palestine. Following the conflict that developed, various peace efforts were attempted by mediators from various nations. However, these efforts failed to solve the internal conflicts and unite the Palestinian people, which may greatly contribute to ending the Israeli occupation.
