Name: Prof. Dr Norazmi Mohd Nor

Norazmi Mohd Nor, is a Professor of Molecular Immunology and Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He obtained his B.Sc (Hon) from Monash University, Australia and his PhD from Flinders University, Australia. Norazmi’s main research activities are in the development of an improved vaccine, therapeutics and diagnostics for tuberculosis (TB).He has secured more than RM22.5m (~USD5.5m) in research funding as Principal Investigator, including securing back-to-back funding for The Long-Term Research Grant Scheme from the Ministry of Higher Education as well as the prestigious international funding from the Global Health Innovative Technology Fund. Norazmi has more than 150 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals.

Prof. Norazmi has research collaborations with several institutions in Mexico, Spain, Chile, Japan and Australia. He frequently sits in national and international review panels for research grant proposals including, recently a special grant for research into COVID vaccine development by MOSTI and other related COVID research by the Medical Research Council, UK. Norazmi also frequently reviews scientific manuscripts for publication in pretigious journals, including for the Science nad Nature group of journals. He has also been invited to give many talks on the biotechnology industry and on his research – including more than a dozen talks on COVID-19 during the last few months. He is also involved in many strategic planning for research in Malaysia, especially for the Ministry of Higher Education and MOSTI. He is also an advisor to several biotechnology companies.

Norazmi’s scientific contribution to the country was recognized when he was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, Malaysia in 2012.
